The Betway Premiership title race burst wide open on Wednesday night as Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a 2-1 win over log leaders Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.
Brian Lyon scored twice late in the first half to reduce Pirates' lead at the summit to three points, while Sundowns still have a game in hand as they chase a ninth consecutive league title.

Pirates started with intent and forced Ronwen Williams to make two excellent saves inside the opening 15 minutes. Deon Hotto's deflected effort was ruled out, before Yanela Mbuthuma was denied from close range after meeting Oswin Apolis' cross.
The hosts threatened again when Patrick Mswangani looked set to run for goal, only for Khlumani Ndamane to make a decisive tackle. That proved to be a turning point.
In the 37th minute, Nuno Santos picked out Lyon with a precise diagonal pass and the Colombian fired a superb finish from a tight angle. Four minutes later, he struck again, latching onto Aubrey Modiba's low delivery to put Sundowns firmly in control at the break.
The Pirates responded shortly after halftime. Mswangani fired from range and his effort took a heavy deflection off Teboho Mokoena, pushing Williams the wrong way and pulling one wide.
The game began with the Buccaneers looking for an equalizer. Mokoena almost restored the two-goal lead with a fierce long-range strike that forced a sharp save from Sipho Chine, while Ndamane later saw a header crash against the crossbar.
Despite late pressure, the Pirates were unable to create sustained chances. The defeat ended their 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions and dashed Sundowns' hopes of ending their long-standing dominance.
Both sides have now turned their attention to this weekend's Nedbank Cup fixtures, but the title race has taken on new intensity.
