Dar es Salaam: The Ministry of Health, through its Medical Tourism Programme, has brought together stakeholders from the government, private sector and various institutions to gather ideas for the preparation of a strategic plan for medical tourism.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam after the meeting, Dr Asha Mahita, Medical Tourism Coordinator at the Ministry of Health, said stakeholders reviewed the opportunities and challenges that exist in the country to develop a robust plan to support Tanzania’s medical tourism agenda.

Additionally, he said that at the meeting he gathered the views and experiences of various stakeholders on the opportunities available as well as the challenges they face, with the intention of formulating a concrete strategy that will position Tanzania as a hub of medical services for visitors from abroad.

Dr Asha also said that the inclusion of medical tourism in the agenda of President Samia Suluhu Hassan's vision has provided impetus and inspiration to effectively develop strategies to achieve government objectives.
