SA Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has confirmed that South Africa has not been accredited to key Group of 20 (G20) meetings starting this week.

I am speaking in one Interview with bloomberg At Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, Godongwana said the US had not recognized South Africa to participate in the G20 talks. These are scheduled to run from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, 2026. This effectively excludes South Africa from G20 participation for the rest of the year.

“We are members of the G20; however, the US has not recognized us,” Godongwana said.

The boycott is based on US President Donald Trump's firm stance, first expressed in late November last year, when he announced That South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 summit in the United States.

This step forward Claim South Africa is committing genocide against white Africans and expropriating land without compensation – a claim widely disputed by analysts and officials.

The decision underscores rising diplomatic tensions with the United States, raising questions about the country's global economic standing.

The US takes over the rotating presidency of the G20 from South Africa at the end of 2024, after Brazil hosted it last year, and is set to host a leaders' summit in Miami later this year before handing over to Britain.

Despite the setback, Godongwana struck a pragmatic tone, describing the hiatus as a temporary pause. South Africa is expected to rejoin the G20 under the UK presidency in November this year.
