BAIC Automobile South Africa hosted a high-level delegation from the Motor Industry Association of Zimbabwe (MIAZ) along with key representatives of Zimbabwe's automotive sectors at its Gqeberha manufacturing plant in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

The visit formed part of a broader industry engagement aimed at strengthening regional automotive cooperation and deepening the understanding of modern vehicle manufacturing capabilities within the Southern African region.

The delegation included the leadership of MIAZ, the National Employment Council for the Motor Industry (NECMI), the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), the Automotive and Allied Workers' Union of Zimbabwe, technical committees and independent business stakeholders. Together, they represent a cross-section of Zimbabwe's automotive value chain, from policy and regulation to labor and industry development.

First look at modern manufacturing

Guests were given a tour of BAIC South Africa's production facility, which included a detailed overview of the assembly workshops and key operational areas. The tour provided an inside look at BAIC's manufacturing processes, quality standards and production capacity within the local market.

From body assembly to final preparation, the delegation witnessed the plant's focus on precision, efficiency and scalable production in line with global BAIC standards.

Industry Dialogue Beyond the Floor

In addition to the workshop tour, discussions were held on the future of automotive manufacturing in the region, skills development and the role of industrial partnerships in building stronger, more competitive regional economies.

The partnership highlighted the shared interest in enhancing the exchange of automotive knowledge and exploring collaboration opportunities in the Southern African/Markets.

The visit concluded with a special test drive session, allowing delegates to experience BAIC vehicles first-hand. The Drive element added a practical layer to the Tour, highlighting the brand's focus on providing capability, comfort and performance in real-world conditions.
