WildMango, a Nairobi-based technology firm, has formalized a partnership with OpenAI, naming it as one of the US company's first small and medium business (SMB) partners on the African continent.
The move, announced on Tuesday, will see the company work on the distribution, integration and localization of OpenAI's enterprise AI products in African markets.
“Our partnership with OpenAI puts Africa at the forefront of the global AI transformation. We are striving to ensure that Africa is not left behind,” said Sera Katusya, co-founder of WildMango.
“We are not just expanding access; our ambition is to shape how AI is deployed and used in African contexts. It is about ensuring that the continent fully participates in a future powered by AI.”
Under the arrangement, WildMango will work directly with enterprises, start-ups, developers and public institutions to deploy AI-powered tools to improve productivity, operational decision making and service delivery.
The partnership also includes developer enablement, providing training and resources to technical teams and policymakers across the region.
Expanding capabilities in Africa is important for OpenAI, said Ben Tyson, senior partner enablement manager at OpenAI.
“This partnership with WildMango will enable companies, start-ups, developers and other institutions to leverage our world-class model and capabilities to accelerate growth, efficiency and impact,” Tyson said.
Tyson highlighted WildMango's local market knowledge as a key factor in the design of the partnership.
He added: “Implementing new technology requires a specialized skill set and a clear understanding of both the power of technology and the way businesses operate.
“WildMango’s deep understanding of the African market, combined with its commitment to impact and long-term customer success, gives us confidence in this partnership.”
WildMango has also committed to aligning deployments with responsible AI principles covering security, inclusivity and long-term social impact.
