The USA Employment Report 2026 highlights the South African labor market which is undergoing significant structural change in a constrained economic environment. Weak economic growth, infrastructure bottlenecks, increased unemployment and low labor absorption are limiting the economy's ability to generate adequate formal employment opportunities.

Additionally, the report finds that significantly more South Africans are participating in productive economic activity than official employment figures indicate. The increasing share of labor market participation is growing through informal, casual, self-employment, subsistence and other non-standard forms of work.

The report combines findings from macroeconomic analysis, labor market trends and the UASA/BMR employment index to assess the evolving nature of work within the South African economy.
