As part of our ambitious growth strategy to become South Africa's leading digital publisher, we are looking for an innovative, visionary and digitally focused Editor: Technology to lead IOL Tech.
We are looking for a passionate technology journalist and editorial leader who understands the deep impact of technology on business, society, government and everyday life. The successful candidate will lead coverage of artificial intelligence, innovation, cybersecurity, telecommunications, startups, fintech, consumer technology and the digital economy.
about the role
Editor: As Technology, you will be responsible for setting the editorial vision and strategy for IOL Tech while leading a team of journalists and contributors covering the technologies that are shaping the future.
You will drive exclusive reporting, analysis, reviews and thought leadership content while making IOL Tech South Africa's most trusted destination for technology news and insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute editorial strategy for IOL Tech.
- Monitor daily technology news coverage and content planning.
- Run exclusive reporting, investigations and industry analysis.
- Manage and guide technology journalists and contributors.
- Cover key sectors including AI, telecom, cyber security, fintech, startups, digital transformation and consumer technology.
- Build relationships with industry leaders, innovators, regulators and technology companies.
- Ensure the highest standards of editorial quality, accuracy and integrity.
- Develop audience growth strategies on digital and social platforms.
- Collaborate with video, product, audience, SEO, and social media teams.
- Launch innovative content products including newsletters, podcasts, webinars, and video series.
- Promote the use of data, analytics and emerging technologies within the newsroom.
requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Technology, Computer Science, Communication or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of journalism experience, including significant experience covering technology or innovation.
- Minimum of 3 years editorial leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of global and South African technology trends.
- Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills.
- Proven experience in digital publishing and audience development.
- Strong networks within the technology ecosystem.
- Ability to simplify complex technical topics for a broad audience.
