Mall of the South is calling on corporate South Africans to be part of a powerful movement for change by securing a table at #HOLLER 2026.

It is its flagship social impact gala dedicated to addressing the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV) and building safe communities.

Now in its sixth year, #HOLLER has established itself as a recognized platform to raise awareness about gender-based violence, domestic abuse, human trafficking and other forms of violence.

While supporting survivors is the centerpiece of the initiative, this year's event marks an important development by shifting the conversation toward prevention and asking an important question: If society is serious about ending violence, shouldn't it spend more time understanding and addressing what causes it?

Over the years, South Africans have marched, protested, donated and stood in solidarity with victims and survivors. Yet despite these efforts, violence continues to have a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities across the country.

move forward with awareness

This year, #HOLLER 2026 aims to move beyond awareness by exploring practical solutions that focus on stopping violence before it happens.

Research and crime statistics consistently show that the majority of perpetrators of gender-based violence are men. While most men are not violent, organizers believe lasting change requires meaningful engagement with men and boys through honest conversations about trauma, emotional well-being, accountability, healthy relationships, and positive masculinity.

Rather than assigning blame, this initiative seeks to create understanding. The aim is to create solutions rather than point fingers. The focus is on preventing violence before another victim is born, encouraging communities to address the underlying factors that contribute to abuse.

“Supporting survivors will always be at the center of #HOLLER, but if we're serious about changing the future, we must also be bold enough to include those who have the biggest impact in changing it. This isn't about blaming men; it's about empowering more men to be part of the solution. We believe prevention starts long before violence happens,” said Mall of the South Center Manager, Hester Smith.

He believes that the future of South Africa depends not only on the safety of women and children, but also on raising boys who grow up to be men of empathy, accountability, respect and courage.
