Details remain unclear about the search and rescue operation for five Ekapa mine workers trapped underground due to mudflow in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Kimberley-based mine said in a statement after the incident that the whereabouts of five workers had not been determined and that their families had been informed.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has asked mine management to provide a detailed update on rescue efforts and to confirm whether contact has been established with the missing miners.
