South African tennis player Lloyd Harris
South African tennis star Lloyd Harris won his second ATP Challenger title of the year with victory at the Tenerife Challenger II tournament at the weekend.
Harris, seeded sixth at the event, defeated Alejandro Moro Cañas of Spain 7–5, 7–5 in the final on the Spanish island.
It was Harris's second Challenger title of the year, having also won the Soma Bay Open in Egypt in late January. It was also Harris's eighth career crown in this division.
Harris is currently ranked 155th in the ATP rankings. He reached his career-highest ranking of No. 31 in 2021, but several injuries have hindered his progress in recent seasons. The Capetonian has struggled with wrist, back, glute and shoulder problems.
In January, Harris competed in the qualifying tournament for the Australian Open but lost to Italy's Federico Sina 4–6, 7–6 (7/4), 3–6 in the first round.
He will be hoping for an injury-free season and a rise in the rankings.
The latest success will help Harris gain valuable points to have a better chance of making the main draws of ATP Tour events.
The ATP Challenger Tour is the second highest level of men's professional tennis, behind the ATP Tour and ahead of the ITF World Tennis Tour.
It is not unusual for top level players to find form on the Challenger circuit.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka played the majority of his 2025 season on the ATP Challenger Tour.
Former world No. 1 American Andre Agassi also dropped into the Challenger circuit when his form declined in the mid-1990s.
