ACCRA – Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs has celebrated the evacuation of the second batch of Ghanaian citizens South Africa.
The group was evacuated on Saturday night, 6 June 2026, amid rising tensions in the country. Several demonstrations have taken place across the country, as locals protest the presence of undocumented foreign nationals.

Ghana's foreign affairs are taking to social media MinisterSamuel Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed the returnees home.
He stressed that the government kept its promise and ensured that no Ghanaian citizen was left in harm's way.
“Last night, it was a great honor to welcome my fellow citizens with love, warmth and the pride of being a servant leader in a great country who does not abandon our citizens, especially in times of crisis,” Abalakwa said.

He said the work is not over yet, as the focus is now on reintegration with dignity, medical and psychosocial support. Abalakwa also said that the government would attempt to compensate those who had to leave property and businesses in South Africa, and secure jobs for those able to work.
Ablakwa concluded, “The Mahama administration will continue to protect the rights of our dear citizens, serve with compassion and safeguard the welfare of all Ghanaians.”
