Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has extended 100 job opportunities to Ghanaian nationals deported from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant protests.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa while welcoming a new batch of returnees at the Accra International Airport on Saturday night, June 7, 2026.
According to the Minister, the employment offer is part of ongoing efforts to support the reintegration of Ghanaians who voluntarily returned home after losing businesses, jobs and property amid the unrest in South Africa.
“I am very impressed that already, about 200 jobs have been secured for you and Mr Ibrahim Mahama’s engineers and planners are leading the way. He has offered 100 jobs,” Mr Abalakwa told the displaced people.
He further said that telecommunications companies Airtel Tigo and Telecel had also pledged support, with additional corporate organizations expressing interest in assisting the returnees.
“I also want to thank Airtel Tigo and Telecel, they have also reached out. There are many other CEOs who have called saying they are going to be part of this program. They are not going to sit back and watch you lose everything, business and assets. They are going to partner with the government to ensure that you are fully integrated.”
The latest arrivals are part of the ongoing government evacuation exercise involving more than 1,500 Ghanaians who chose to return home in the wake of renewed xenophobic violence and anti-immigrant protests in South Africa.
The government says the reintegration program will include job placement and other support measures aimed at helping returnees rebuild their livelihoods.
The first flight of the second batch brought about 345 people to Ghana, while another flight is expected to carry more than 300 passengers as the evacuation process continues.
