LeanTechnology today announced the official launch of the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneurial Institute of South Africa (AIEISA), an initiative designed to foster the long-term growth and success of South Africa's small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).
Led by Rowen Pillai, co-founder and CEO of LeanTechnologies with over a decade of experience in the finance, professional services, industrial and retail sectors, AIEISA aims to bridge the digital divide by providing practical, localized AI training. Pillai holds a number of impressive qualifications including CA (SA), PD (SA), Certified AI Expert, Certified Lean Practitioner, Certified Business Intelligence and Data Analyst and Master of Business Administration.
Bridging the gap with practical AI
“Most people know AI is here to stay, but they're stuck. They don't know where to start, their results are inconsistent, and they don't have time to experiment,” says Pillai. “AIEISA exists to bridge that gap. We make AI practical, repeatable and useful from day one, so that SMMEs and entrepreneurs can achieve measurable results without having to be 'technical' or hire expensive consultants.”
The Institute operates under the mantra Built by South Africans, for South Africans, ensuring that the curriculum addresses the unique challenges of the local business environment.
Strategic alignment with ESD and government framework
AIEISA offers a strategic mechanism for large corporations to support the small business sector. The institute is designed to help large corporates channel enterprise and supplier development (ESD) funds toward high-impact AI education. By doing so, AIEISA helps sponsors achieve B-BBEE verification, while ensuring that beneficiaries receive training that delivers verifiable impact, such as standardized templates, playbooks, and measurable productivity outcomes.
Furthermore, AIEISA aims to assist the South African government in establishing a strong AI education framework specifically targeted at small businesses. This is in line with the urgent need for collaborative effort across the public and private sectors to unlock the transformative potential of AI for the economy.
Launch the course
AIEISA's training programs are designed as short, phone-friendly modules paired with guided exercises to ensure continuity. The institute launches today with phased implementation of targeted programmes:
- 24 February 2026: Launch of AI for owner-managed SMMEs. This foundational course helps business owners quickly set up daily workflows for emailing, planning, research, and outreach to save time.
- 17 March 2026: Launch of AI to enhance your SMME. The program focuses on creating AI strategies and operating systems to standardize team workflows and ensure consistent growth.
- 21 April 2026: Launch of AI for Human Resources. Designed to create a scalable, people-first HR operating system that cuts down on admin, hiring and onboarding without losing the human touch.
- 21 April 2026: Launch of AI for accounting. Designed to streamline month-end administration and strengthen reporting clarity by turning finance work into decision-ready insights, with controls that keep you in compliance.
- 19 May 2026: Launch of AI for marketing. Designed to help SMMEs create consistent, high quality marketing outputs (positioning, content and campaigns) by building a repeatable marketing engine using AI.
- 19 May 2026: Launch of AI for sale. It is designed to create a repeatable sales process (prospecting, following up, discovering and proposing) using AI to convert conversations into closed deals and keep opportunities moving.
“South Africa's small business environment is quite unique, and so, we cannot simply introduce technology; we must empower these companies to leverage its potential, starting with comprehensive training and moving quickly to implement impactful, real-world business use cases. By strategically leveraging ESD funds to empower South African SMEs with AI, we can unlock a new era of innovation, foster inclusive growth, and become more competitive and Building a Resilient Economy This initiative is created by South Africans, for South Africans, to ensure that our small businesses are equipped to thrive in an ever-evolving global marketplace,” said Pillai.
