The government has declared a severe storm affecting several provinces National calamity. there are six provinces Affected: Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, North West, Free State and Mpumalanga.

The South African Weather Service has warned that heavy rain and strong winds are likely to continue in parts of the Western Cape. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced all schools The province will remain closed on Tuesday, May 12.

Authorities have been urged to implement a multi-sectoral plan focused on prevention, relief and rehabilitation as rescue and cleanup operations continue in flood-hit areas facing road closures, damaged infrastructure and power cuts.

City of Cape Town teams are clearing debris from fallen trees on the ground and removing storm-related obstructions in affected areas as part of ongoing clean-up operations.
