Ramaphosa impeachment panel sits for the first time
For the first time in South Africa's democratic history, the parliamentary committee established to consider the impeachment of a sitting president will meet, reports EWN. The 31-member committee will have only one order of business: electing a chairperson. It was established a week after the Constitutional Court in May forced parliament to consider allegations of misconduct against President Cyril Ramaphosa. It follows the events that followed the 2020 theft of over US$500,000 stashed in a couch at his Fala Fala farm.

Johannesburg's Metrobus is set to reduce its services due to financial constraints and rising diesel costs, according to reports SABC news. The transport provider said that budget cuts over the years as well as high fuel costs have made it difficult to maintain normal services. The changes will include fewer off-peak buses on selected routes and fewer journeys during periods of low passenger demand. Passengers are encouraged to check the Metrobus website or bus depots and terminals for updated schedules and route information.
Johannesburg water systems restored after maintenance work
According to the report, Johannesburg Water has said its systems are slowly recovering as infrastructure maintenance work continues across the city EWN. Water supply has already been restored to areas such as the Johannesburg CBD, South Hills and Crown Gardens. Water tankers are still being sent to affected communities, with hospitals, clinics and old-age homes receiving priority assistance. However, residents in the highlands of Midrand are facing supply disruptions. The utility says teams are monitoring reservoir levels and adjusting systems to improve recovery, while also urging residents to use water sparingly to refill storage facilities.
