South African pop star Tyla has been dropped from a lawsuit related to a royalty dispute over her Grammy-winning song Water.

board It was reported that the singer will no longer face trial in the case, which was filed in 2025 by two songwriters who worked Water.

The collaborators, Olmo Zucca and Jackson Lomastro, both based in California, initially filed a lawsuit against producer Sammy Soso (real name Samuel Awuku), Tyla, and Sony Music Entertainment (who were dropped from the case in November 2025).

Awuku is currently the sole defendant in the case.

“This lawsuit arises from Avuku's unfair and unlawful efforts to take sole credit for the production of (water) and to deprive (Zucca and LoMaestro) of the top-line producer credit and royalties to which they are entitled,” the July 25 filing reads.

Zucca and Lomastro argued that the refusal to give credit resulted in damage to their reputations and careers and the loss of their opportunities.

The plaintiffs want the court to declare that, among other things, Zucca and Lomastro are top-line producers who deserve full credit. They are also demanding prospective and retroactive royalties, including a 12.5% share of publishing royalties.

According to Billboard, the plaintiffs made the same allegations in a previous lawsuit, but they dropped the case on July 24, 2025 and re-filed it with a new attorney in California a day later.

A source told the publication that neither Tyla nor Sony paid any settlement amount, and “the claims were dropped as it became clear they were baseless.”
