Gauteng-the South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating allegations that National Police Commissioner General Fanny Masemola took millions in bribes from a top football club official. This was according to suspended Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner General Daphne Manmela.
according to Newsroom AfricaSAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the SAPS had noted Manamela's allegations, which cannot be taken lightly. He said that any allegation of wrongdoing, misconduct or interference in any criminal, political or organizational matter is taken extremely seriously. However, cases raised should be subjected to appropriate investigative procedures to establish the facts.
“Where necessary, independent oversight bodies or the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry may be involved to ensure fairness and public confidence in the process. The due process must be allowed to take its course,” he said.

Manamela held a press conference on 19 April 2026 and alleged that businessman and football administrator Bobby Motaung paid a bribe of R5 million to Masemola and Major General Botsotso Moukangwe.
