“If you have a tax question, simply send a message or voice note and get clear answers in seconds. For South Africans who conduct their daily communications via WhatsApp, and where tax is one of the most widely misunderstood parts of personal finance, this removes two of the biggest barriers to getting help: high cost and not knowing where to get answers,” TaxTim told Hypertext in a release.

It is built with guardrails: if it doesn't know the answer, it says so, rather than making one up or guessing.”

With reliable tax answers now a free WhatsApp message away, it takes away a lot of the fear. You don't even need to be a Taxtime customer to ask your questions via WhatsApp.”

On 13 July, when the above auto-assessment period ends, TimAI will also be available to South African taxpayers through a dedicated website. This version of the chatbot will be able to provide answers tailored to their specific situation based on the customer's own Taxtime history and previous filings.
