As part of ongoing efforts to deepen military cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa, the Chief of Army Staff of the South African Army, Lieutenant General Lawrence Mbatha, has paid a working visit to key Nigerian Army institutions in Kaduna State.

The South African Army Chief was welcomed and escorted by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Wase.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Mbatha visited key facilities including the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, and the Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna. Speaking at the event, Lt. Gen.

Mbatha said the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral military ties and benchmark training systems between the armed forces of the two countries.

They highlighted existing cooperation agreements and expressed interest in enhancing professional exchanges, joint training initiatives and shared strategies to address regional security challenges.

The engagement is part of a wider itinerary for Lieutenant General Mbatha in Nigeria, which includes high level meetings with the Chief of Defense Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Widi Shaibu in Abuja and visits to other strategic institutions such as the National Defense College and the Nigerian Army Cyber ​​Warfare Command.

Both countries stressed that closer cooperation will improve operational capabilities, support counter-terrorism efforts and contribute to greater stability and collective defense across the African continent.
