JOHANNESBURG (AP) — A group of South African citizens who were reportedly lured into Soldiers fighting for Russia in the war against Ukraine arrive at Durban airport on Wednesday.

The 11 people arrived at King Shaka International Airport and were taken to a police station for questioning about how they got to the front lines of the war in Ukraine.

One man was taken off the plane in a wheelchair, while others carried their belongings in a military-style bag.

This brings to 15 the number of South Africans who have now returned to the country, while two others are still in Russia.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Tuesday that one of the men was still in hospital in Russia, while the other man would travel after his travel documents were finalised.

Police spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said last week that an investigation had been launched in relation to South African laws that prohibit any civilian I am attending Foreign conflict without government permission.

At least five people are being investigated in connection with the recruitment of men in Russia, including Duduzile Juma-Sambudla, the daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma.

But he has denied any wrongdoing resigned from the post of MLA In the Parliament of South Africa following the claims.

Some of these people were said to be members of the Zuma family who were directly recruited by Zuma-Sambudla.

Five men were arrested in December and now face charges related to the recruitment of men and are due to appear in court in April.
