South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, which could cause damage and flooding.

Scattered thunderstorms can be expected across most of the province, except the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, which will remain cloudy in parts but mostly mild and warm to hot.

Impact-Based Warnings

Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe storms with heavy rain, damaging winds, extreme lightning and hail are expected in northwestern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. This can cause local flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.

In SAWS's color-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that high-risk impact is expected, requiring greater attention and preparation. SAWS uses numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and level 4 is low.
