The Emperor of the Asante Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, wined and dined with staff of the Ghana High Commission in South Africa.

The event organized by the Asantehene took place in Johannesburg on March 15, 2026 as part of the second Akwesasde Festival of the year.

The staff was led by His Excellency Benjamin Anani Kwashi, Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa.

Dignitaries from across the world also attended the event.

Addressing the guests, Otumfuo said that dining with High Commission staff is a tradition he has adopted for some time.

“Today is not a day for diplomacy or anything. It's for breaking bread… I usually invite employees to come and break bread with me. Interestingly, today falls on Aquasidae, so it's a combination of me inviting my children to come and also celebrating Aquasidae.”

Also present at the event were Ghanaian-born Ambassador of Angola to South Africa, His Excellency João Baptista Domingos Quiosa; Founder of A&C Development, Mr Andrew Kwabena Asamoah; Bright Igbinedion, son of Esama, of the Kingdom of Benin in Nigeria; and renowned Ghanaian financial mogul, Mr. Kofi Sekere.
